About 90 youths in Makueni County have been given trade tools to start businesses to generate income, alleviate poverty, and become self-reliant. The youths were handed over the tools by the Makueni County Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili after they underwent a thorough 8 weeks on job-training under the supervision of identified master craftsmen through a programme dubbed Ujuzi Teke Teke in the Department of Gender, Children, Youth, Sports and Social Services. “The programme seeks to create self-employment for the youth as well bridge the capital gap by providing tools of work. Hence, it gives me great pleasure to be part of this occasion targeting various Jua Kali sector which is a game changer sector when it comes to economic stability of our county,” said Mulili, during the graduation and issuance of tools trade for Teke Teke programme at the Makueni Integrated Vocation Centre.
Among the tools of trade handed over to the beneficiaries who were drawn from the 30 wards in the county included sewing machines, car wash machines, saloon, barber machines to mention a few.
Nairobi Regional Commissioner Katee Mwanza has cautioned individuals vandalizing roads furniture along Kitisuru-Thika Road in Westlands and Kasarani sub counties within Nairobi County to stop forthwith.
Mwanza said the government has spent a colossal amount of funds and resources to construct roads and other infrastructures in the county and will not allow people to destroy them.
“Security Committees in the Sub Counties should ensure that vandalism of road furniture is stopped, and those involved in the theft should be arrested and arraigned in court,” he stressed. The RC mentioned that in 2022, there was widespread vandalism of critical infrastructure in the country, which made the government to make a decision that anyone found vandalizing road furniture be charged with terrorism.
The RC was speaking during the Nairobi National Government Development Region/County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee held at the Regional Commissioner Boardroom at Nyayo House Building that was attended by the Director Delivery Service for Nairobi and Central Regions Mr. Jonah Orumoi and Departmental Heads. He at the same time cautioned people encroaching on the Southern bypass and other road reserves within the country to stop.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lauded the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for the continued war on sale, distribution and consumption of illicit drugs. Speaking at the National Police Service stand on the occasion of the official opening of the Mombasa International Show, the Deputy President assured the Director DCI Mr Mohamed I. Amin of the government’s support in ensuring the war on drugs is sustained for a drug free society. Gachagua further noted that tangible milestones in the war against drugs within the entire Coastal region have been attained, urging the DCI to keep doing it’s work relentlessly.
A delegation from Malawi and members of WASREB paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of water, sanitation and Irrigation for the benchmarking of the Ministry on Regulatory Overview, Institutional Arrangements, Sector Policies and Registrations. Representing the Principal Secretary water and sanitation Julius Korir, was Engineer Mary Wamaitha who took the delegation on a learning expedition on what sanitation sector does on daily basis. The team from Malawi were happy to learn on regulatory tools, customer service, service delivery provision and how the State of Water and Sanitation Department functions. The team was very happy with the polices the Ministry undertake and appreciated that they will implement what they have learnt from the Ministry to their country.
