Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday held a consultative meeting with more than 20 leaders from different parts of the mountain region at his Wamunyoro Residence in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County. The leaders, led by Nyeri County governor Dr Mutahi Kahiga are part of a new caucus known as Team Sauti Ya Wananchi. The meeting was meant to discuss and prepare for last evening’s media interview where he presented an interim report after a lengthy consultation with Kenyans on the way forward. Since he was impeached, the former DP has held more than 300 consultative meetings with different groups and individuals at his residence which is at the base of mount Kenya.

Ven. Canon Gerald Muriithi (with wife in the picture) was declared the new bishop after he best two colleagues during the election held at St Peter’s Cathedral which is the diocese headquarters in Nyeri town. The other two were Ven Canon Mwangi Waweru and Ven Canon Charles Itegi. Head of church in the country Archbishop Ole Sapit oversaw the exercise.

The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has sensitized insurance providers on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulations in a move to safeguard financial systems from illicit activities. The one-day sensitisation workshop provided life insurers and investment-related insurance providers with the necessary guidance to uphold financial integrity and regulatory compliance in the insurance industry.
Under the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act, life insurers and investment-related insurance providers are classified as “reporting institutions.”
Farmers who rear broiler chicken from across the country have formed a cooperative society in a bid to save them from exploitation by brokers and improve pricing of their poultry. The over 20,000 farmers said through the Sacco, they would have a better bargaining power to improve the pricing of broiler meat that has over the years been low. Speaking during a meeting in Ruiru town last Friday, the farmers decried that they have been forced to sell a kilo of broiler meat for Sh240, sometimes making loses due to brokers who have controlled pricing in the sector. They said with over 100,000 broiler chicken farmers across the country, they could dictate pricing once they all join the Sacco.
Mombasa Cement firm has partnered with Rotary to host a fun day for 2500 children with physical and mental disabilities from 19 Special Needs Schools in the six coastal counties as a way of fostering love. The yearly event, christened Sunshine Rally, was held at the Shree Hasmukh Kanji Premji Budhai Memorial Hall in Nyali. The ecstatic children filled the expansive hall to the rafters. They were entertained with music and served sumptuous meals, and gifts were in plenty to make the day memorable.
Mombasa Cement Spokesperson Jayendra Hirani said they were the platinum sponsors of the event that brings together children with disabilities from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Taita-Taveta and Lamu counties. He added that they would endeavour to follow in the footsteps of the late Philanthropist and Founder of the Cement firm who liked and looked after children with disabilities.
The cement firm runs the largest special school in the world built 25 years ago by the late Founder of Mombasa Cement Mr. Hasmukh Patel. Apart from the special schools, they are also primary and secondary schools with a population of 3000 and 1400 learners respectively.
Nyeri County Senator Wahome Wamatinga yesterday led a section of Members of Parliament and other leaders at Victors Chapel in Karatina town, Mathira constituency during the celebration of 25 years of priesthood of Bishop William Wachira. Other leaders present during the ceremony where president William Ruto was initially expected to attend but couldn’t since he is out of the country included area MP Eric Wamumbi and nominated MP Sabina Chege.
