Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki lauded President William Ruto’s choice of Rigathi Gachagua’s successor – Prof. Kitthure Kindiki, saying it shows every person in the country has the ability to lead.
Governor Njuki who spoke from the County’s official residence in Kajuki, Chuka Igambang’ombe Constituency, said the appointment of Kindiki, was a true manifestation of the end to the politics of shareholding, and a hold of the politics of inclusivity, where, a person from one of the smallest counties in the country, now ascends to the second highest office in the country.
According to Governor Njuki, the appointment of Kindiki is an answered prayer, as his work as Interior Cabinet Secretary has earned him admiration in the hearts of Kenyans, now saying his swearing in will be the icing on the cake, beginning a journey of returning Kenya right on its development tracks.
Prof Kindiki was approved by the National Assembly on Friday afternoon and his name gazzetted as Deputy President – elect, awaiting swearing in, albeit Court Orders issued in Nairobi and Kerugoya halting the move.
Governor Njuki also called on Prof Kindiki to work for the betterment of the whole nation, while bringing each and every community to work in harmony.
At the same time, Embu County residents expressed diverse views with regard to the nomination of Prof. Kithure Kindiki by President William Ruto as the next Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
Many hailed the move, saying he was fit for the job given his national demeanour and vast experience in governance, administration, and law that sets him apart from others.
Political Lobbyist Kirangacha Mwaniki said it was also a win for Mt. Kenya East, which has for the first time produced a Deputy President.
“For over 50 years we have supported our brothers from Mt. Kenya West from the time of first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and it is time now for them to reciprocate the gesture,” he said.
He said the move will also create equality within the region and bring an end to politics of tribalism and ethnic Balkanisation.
A resident Gikundo wa Gikundo termed Kindiki as a man of good repute who has never been implicated in any criminal or graft-related matter.
However, another resident, Joseph Njeru said it was unfair for the former DP to be impeached, yet he was elected on the same ticket as the president without proper public participation being done
