Farmers to Receive Free Inputs and Scholarships Under New Support Plan
ACCRA, Oct. 5 — The Government of Ghana has announced a 12.27% increase in the producer price of cocoa, raising it to GHS3,625 per bag, equivalent to GHS58,000 per tonne, effective October 3, 2025. This marks a GHS400 rise from the price set in August.
The move is part of a broader strategy to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and strengthen Ghana’s cocoa industry, which remains a cornerstone of the national economy.
Margins and fees for stakeholders, including the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), remain unchanged.
COCOBOD SUPPORT PACKAGE To complement the price hike, COCOBOD will provide cocoa farmers with a range of free inputs, including:
- Fertilizers
- Insecticides and fungicides
- Spraying machines
- Flower inducers
Additionally, COCOBOD will launch a Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers beginning in the 2026/27 academic year.
Government officials say the new measures are designed to boost productivity, reduce input costs, and ensure long-term sustainability in the cocoa sector.
Farmer groups have welcomed the announcement, calling it a timely intervention that reflects the government’s commitment to fair compensation and agricultural development.
Ghana is the world’s second-largest cocoa producer, and the new pricing and support measures are expected to reinforce its competitiveness on the global stage.
