Othaya Constituency Member of Parliament Wambugu Wainaina has a new concept that he hopes will enable the government to realize its agenda of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
The MP who is popularly known as Mt Kenya among his constituents want Kenyans to embrace a concept where everyone will every year be planting trees equivalent to their age.
“My proposal is for every Kenyan to be planting trees which are equivalent to their age. If you are 30 years, you should plant 30 trees on your birthday. The following year when you turn 31, plant 31 trees. If you are 60 years, do the same.This way, we shall not even reach 2032 before realizing the Kenya Kwanza administration agenda on forest cover and addressing the Climate change issue,” the MP said yesterday after appearing at GTN TV Kenya which is based in Othaya, adding that the concept should start with kids when they celebrate their second birthday.

During the talk show where he was hosted by Waithaka Kinyua, the Wainaina castigated the Wednesday demonstrations which he said cost the country a lot.
He noted that the demonstrations were only derailing the country which was reeling with debts.
He urged the opposition leader Raila Odinga to once and for all declare what he wanted, noting that the Kenya Kwanza government gave him a chance to form a committee which could have addressed issues he had but the talks were sabotaged.
In his Othaya constituency, the MP noted that he had initiated several matters that were beneficial to the locals.
Among these are transparent disbursement of bursary, a process he noted was opposed by some of his people.
Others are rehabilitating houses belonging to the less fortunate in the area.
Further, he disclosed that he was working with institutions offering various courses to the youth like Mathenge Technical Training Institute as well as Othaya and Rukira Youth Polytechnics.
