The Senate Committee on Education has lauded the new Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) scheme of service rolled out by Nyandarua County Government as one of the most progressive in the country.
During a meeting with Governor Francis Kimemia at the County Headquarters in Ol’Kalou, the senators said the scheme that has seen 383 serving preparatory assistants absorbed on permanent terms of service would boost the ECDE sector in the county.
Led by the chair of the committee Senator (Dr.) Alice Milgo, the senators noted that while other counties were yet to implement the scheme, Nyandarua has gone a step further by offering 200 new jobs to ECDE teachers.
“We have seen that the meticulous job Governor Kimemia did at the national Government has been devolved to Nyandarua. We are very impressed with what we have seen in ECDEs and Vocational Training Centres. Kudos Governor Kimemia,” said Senator Milgo.
Her sentiments were shared by Senators Dr. Agnes Zani and Dr. Getrude Musuruve who said that other counties should replicate what had been done in Nyandarua in terms of infrastructural development, Human Resources and the school feeding programmes in ECDEs.
Governor Kimemia called on the senators to consider passing a policy that will see provision and ring fencing of ECDE capitation grants from the National Government to fast track development of the sector and enhance quality.
The Governor was with County Executive Committee Members Hon. Stephen Njoroge, Hon. Daniel Wangenye, Hon. Ann Mary Gathia, County Secretary Muigai Wainaina. Also present were Chief Officers Mr. Nelson Kimilu and Dr. Rose Oyolo.
