Human wants are unlimited; we try to satisfy them as much as possible. This makes us to do a lot of tasks. In some of these tasks we keep on interacting with other people some of whom we exchange goods and services and others due to locations where we are operate. In the course of these interactions we develop relationships both intentionally and unintentionally.
These relationships are either positive or negative. Positive relationships are healthy, supportive and encourage able. Negative relationships occur when your interaction with the other person(s) results into hatred, insults and regret among other undesirable effects.
Much as we may try to control who we interact with by choosing what to do, when to do it and how to do it, we cannot be a hundred percent efficient. Sometimes we are in public spaces and we meet all types of people for example at shopping malls, public roads, public education institutions, play grounds and religious institutions. We attend to these places without knowing who else is there and how they will treat us if we happen to meet.
You may leave your house in a good mood and head towards your work station to perform the daily chores then interact with someone who is in a bad mood or someone who dislikes you and who intends to hurt or harm you regardless whether you have wronged that person or not.
The person may apply different tactics to spoil your mood like:
- Hurling insults to you or to someone near you,
- Behaving in an unpleasant manner
- Ignoring you when you try to address to him
- Lying to you openly
- Failing to attend to you despite your being at their work station and requiring their services.

Take a walk. Whenever other people disappoint us and spoil our moods we should try as fast as possible to look for something that makes us happy. Taking a walk and interacting with nature will help us to divert our attention from the negativities and focus on different issues. Nature is orderly it will help us to have orderly flow of ideas in our minds. Nature walk will also help us to inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide, relax our muscles, reduce tension and anxiety. If the hurting experience happened at a certain location walking out of that location for a while will bring relief to you.
Take a deep breath. When confronted by a stressful situation it is advisable for you to stand up on your feet and take a deep breathe in and breathe out exercise. In so doing you will let in good air and release the spoilt one, this will help you to refresh and improve your moods by reducing tension. While still standing you may stretch out your hands to help your muscles relax and allow better circulation of blood in your body.
Think of the activity that you like and do it. Different people enjoy different hobbies. Whenever you are disappointed it is advisable that you attend to that activity that makes you to feel happy. It will help you to dispel the negative energies and encourage positive energies. The stress will fade and you will sober up and continue with your daily activities in a normal way.
Visit a water point. While feeling upset drinking a glass of water may help you to cool down, Some people prefer visiting water falls, springs of water or water fountains, when you observe water flow thoughts flows in your mind so if you were experiencing disturbing thoughts you are able to have some fresh thoughts. If your mood was spoilt new thoughts may come with a feel good effect.
In conclusion we can advise people to be optimistic in life by thinking of what is best for them and what is best for others and going ahead and treating themselves and others as they would like to be treated that is showing both self-care and empathy.
