The installation of a computer hub in Senior Chief Koinange secondary school is a milestone that will ensure quality and holistic education.
This was said by Esther Maina the school principal during the launching of 50 computers donated by the Thika Alumni Trust adding that it is such a great honour for the school to be chosen among many in ensuring digital literacy.
“It is a dream come true for our learners, indeed, we feel privileged. As we all know, the world has become a global village and this necessitates every person especially the young people to be well prepared for the competitive global market,” she said.
She said that technology has influenced almost all aspects of life, ranging from health, security, culture and more so education.
“It has brought newness to the education sector, making learning more interesting, more appealing and much more engaging. It has brought newness to the learning process as the students are now taking the centre stage.

“It was not a cup of coffee. We earned our degrees by doing a lot of manual research, frequenting libraries and perusing volumes and volumes of books. Sometimes, I often wonder the heights we would have reached if we had the opportunity that our students have nowadays,” she noted.
She urged the students not to take for granted the great chance that has been offered to them of getting exposed to the digital world.
She said that the computer hub will aid the students at reinforcing the content the teachers will teach them.
“Go out of your way, be anxious to know and discover the many opportunities that lie ahead of you in the digital world,” she said to the students.
She said that indeed, this is history in making and the students are the ones to make that history a legacy or not.
She appreciated the donors who have selflessly donated a comprehensive computer hub to the school with only one goal, to make easier the learning process, to equip the students with the necessary skills that will be very useful in pursuing their degree courses and accessing other avenues after high school.
“Grab this opportunity, “make hay while the sun shines “she said.
She recalled how some of the old generation used to search for newspapers and magazines when searching for job opportunities.
“It was not easy and I believe many people who lacked such materials were capped out of life’s opportunities. It was not a walk in the park getting to where we are but you have everything at the click of a button, “she said.
She acknowledged the teachers for the effort they put in ensuring they integrate technology in the learning process.
“We as the school have made steps in ensuring that all subjects are well integrated. Special appreciation to our parents for the support as we launch our Computer Hub, “she said.
She said that as a school they feel they are now well equipped with enough resources to actualize the dream and believe this opportunity will positively impact the destinies of the students, more so influence their career choices.
She assured the parents and stakeholders that the school will make the most of what they have been entrusted with.
She acknowledged one of the school teachers Maxwell Kayesi (HSC) who has been influential in the entire process and flowing up on the entire process.
She however told the students to remember that most people miss great opportunities because of their misperception of time.
